UW-Madison helps train aspiring farmers enrolled in ‘the MBA of dairy’
Considering the average age of a Wisconsin farmer is over 56 years old and the state has been losing around 500 dairy farms per year in recent years, experts say it's important to prepare young people to step into farm roles to help keep the state's $88 billion agricultural economy strong into the future.
UW-Madison launches new website for flexible and online degrees and certificates
In an effort to highlight the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s growing menu of flexible and online degree and certificate programs, the campus is launching a new one-stop Web portal, advanceyourcareer.wisc.edu. The portal presents information about these offerings in one place, making it easier to learn about more than 40 online, hybrid, accelerated and evening/weekend programs. It also connects nontraditional students to special career services available for adult learners and community members.
UW–Madison offers free Leopold’s land ethic online course and February event
The University of Wisconsin–Madison will offer its next round of six Massive Open Online Courses beginning Jan. 26 with “The Land Ethic Reclaimed: Perceptive Hunting, Aldo Leopold and Conservation.” MOOCs are free online, noncredit learning experiences that allow people from around the globe to participate. Participants watch educational videos, engage in discussion forums, read articles and often take quizzes or complete educational activities. More than 135,000 registrants from approximately 140 countries and all 50 states signed up for UW–Madison’s previous phase one pilot of four courses.
Unique MOOC with in-person sessions offered for future and current college STEM faculty
A new MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) offering an in-person twist — local weekly facilitated meetings — debuts next week to help future and current college STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) faculty become better teachers. It is designed to be of special interest to grad students planning to teach professionally.

Beginning in 2015, UW–Madison will take Leopold’s words to heart by offering six Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on topics ranging from Shakespeare’s dramas and the digital humanities, to understanding Leopold’s land ethic, to the relationship between climate change and public health.
